Group Homes Directory
Group homes are small, residential facilities located within a community and designed to serve children or adults with chronic disabilities. These homes usually have six or fewer occupants and are staffed 24 hours a day by trained caregivers. Residents of group homes usually have some type of chronic mental disorder that impairs their ability to live independently.
Other group homes are places where a group of teenagers live under the constant supervision of adult staff members. Teens live in these non-secure facilities, and they are offered services and assistance with their problems. These group homes try to have a "home-like" atmosphere and emphasize family living . Most of the teens who arrive at a group home have been placed by social services or ordered by the court.
