Heart Rhythm Specialists and Electrophysiologists
Heart rhythm specialists or electrophysiologists treat patients with irregular heartbeat (arrythmia or dysrhythmia). Arrhythmias can be caused by different factors, including: coronary artery disease; electrolyte imbalances such as sodium or potassium; changes in the heart muscle; injury from a heart attack; healing process after heart surgery. Irregular heart rhythms can also occur in "normal, healthy" hearts.
Arrhythmias may include:; premature atrial contractions; premature ventricular contractions (pvcs); atrial fibrillation; atrial flutter; paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (psvt); accessory pathway tachycardias; av nodal reentrant tachycardia; ventricular tachycardia (v-tach); av nodal reentrant tachycardia; ventricular fibrillation; long qt syndrome; bradyarrhythmias; sinus node dysfunction; heart block.
