Hematology
Hematologists study blood, the blood-forming organs, and blood diseases. Hematologists frequently work in conjunction with other cancer specialists.
They manage patients with cancer and hematologic desorders, and they may treat bleeding disorders such as hemophilia, hematological malignancies such as lymphoma and leukemia, and hemoglobinopathies. They may specialize in blood transfusion or blood bank management.
Clinical laboratory technologists perform complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological tests: examine and analyze body fluids, and cells; look for bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms; analyze the chemical content of fluids; match blood for transfusions; and test for drug levels in the blood to show how a patient
is responding to treatment.
