Nursing Home Directory
Nursing homes, sometimes called long term care facilities or extended care facilities, provide for patients who need constant medical care, but who don't need to be in a hospital and can't be cared for at home. Usually the residents are elderly, but nursing comes can care for the mentally or physically ill. Some nursing homes have sections for pations with Alzheimer's disease and other memory problems. In some cases couples can live together. Most nursing homes have trained staff on duty 24 hours a day.
Some larger nursing homes are organized the same way as hospitals, with nurses' stations on each floor. Other smaller nursing homes try to have a more homelike atmosphere and a feeling of being in a neighborhood.
