Occupational therapists help people return to work after recuperating from injury, and they work with people who have other physicial, mental or emotional conditions that are disabling. They may assist patients with birth injuries or birth defects, learning problems, brain or spinal cord injuries, autism, developmental disorders, mental health or behavioral problems, orthopedic injuries, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, developmental delays, burns, spina bifida, cancer, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, and other chronic illnesses.
Occupational therapists work with children as well as adults, especially with fine motor skill development. They also can help kids with developmental delays and anger management issues, as well as physical disabilities and attention deficit disorder.
