Surgery and Surgeons
Surgery is used to treat many conditions, including: physical trauma and wounds; abnormalities; disorders of function; inflammation; ischaemia and infarction; metabolic disorders; neoplasia; deformity and heavy scarring.; brain damage and nerve damage.
More than 40 million inpatient surgeries are performed every year in the US, amd more than 30 million outpatient procedures. There are many new advances in surgery. Until recently, all surgeries involved cutting with a scalpel. Today, some surgeries are done with lasers. Formerly, some procedures that required large incisions can now be done using instrumentation that needs fewer and smaller incisions.
