Urologists
Urologists treat problems in the urinary tract of both men and women, and on the reproductive system of men. Organs covered by urology include the urethra, bladder, ureters and kidneys, and in men the penis, prostate, seminal vesicles, vas deferens, epididymis and testes. Common urological problems include sexual dysfunction, incontinence, voiding dysfunction, recurrent urinary tract infection, urethral syndrome, and interstitial cystitis.
ED or male erectile dysfunction is also treated by urologists. If the patient is unable to achieve or maintain an erection for sexual intercourse, it may be a symptom of an underlying disease. Some risk factors that may lead to erectile dysfunction are alcohol consumption, certain medications, diabetes, elevated cholesterol, endocrine, neurological problems, obesity, psychological problems, smoking and vascular disease.
Many females suffer from sexual dysfunction, which may be presented as painful intercourse, difficulty reaching orgasm and/or low sexual desire. With the current new medicines available, women suffering from sexual problems may seek help from a urologist.
