Optometrists examine patients' eyes. They prescribe eyeglasses and contact lenses, as well as prescribing drugs for some conditions. Optometrists are also often the primary care provider for vision, and examine patients for signs of diseases such as diabetes and hypertension, as well as providing care to cataract patients, both preoperative and postoperative, and to patients of other eye surgeries.
